No time to visit Stonehenge? No worries. Head to Natural Bridge, Virginia where you can visit Foamhenge, an amazingly accurate replica made out of styrofoam.
The Star of Roanoke (the largest freestanding illuminated star in the world). Located on the top of a mountain inside the city, it also provides a nice view of the Roanoke Valley and surrounding mountains.
The Va-Tenn border runs down the middle of State Street in Bristol, Tennessee. The kids had a kick out of straddling the line and being in two states at once.
Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. We all got a kick out of the extraordinarily kitschy buildings and tourist attractions. They also provided an interesting contrast to the natural beauty of the nearby Great Smoky Mountains.
Another state line. (And we’re headed for #3 today).
The boys and H. went on a 3 mile hike to a waterfall. Ruth and I took it slower. About 2/3 of the way there she said she was done and we headed back down the trail. But we ended up playing in a smaller rocky creek area for about 40 minutes while we waited for the boys to come back down the trail. We saw a salamander and Ruth loved splashing in the creek and jumping on the rocks.
Today….we head from Chattanooga to Nashville with a few stops on the way.
Love hearing about your adventures!!!
