They put their pants on one leg at a time too.

This weekend at basketball I overheard a Dad using our team as an example for his kindergarten age son. (“See, how aggressive those boys are? They go get the ball?”  “See how he protects the ball?”) The way I describe it might sound like the Dad was being a jerk, in fact it was more of a sweet tone. Sort of see what you’ll be like one day rather than why can’t you be like them. And the boy was looking at John’s team with wide awe-filled eyes.

My initial thought was that it seemed a little ironic that anyone was using a team where half the kids can’t tie their own shoes and it’s still not that unheard of for them to be shooting at the wrong basket as an example for anything.

But then I thought that it’s a good reminder that no matter where we are in life there is someone we can look up to.

And someone looking up to us.

  1. Hey Alice~

All three boys play Upwards at our church…what a great program…we love how it is run and how it focuses on learning and not necessarily always winning!! We’re sad that it’s over and are not looking forward to the competetiveness that will soon begin with baseball…Kat

  2. Aw, what a great pic – it was a happy reminder of OUR Upward days (2nd through 8th grades). Nice message in your post, too!
